When I have been in the Calif Mountains (ie: Sequoia campgrounds), the rangers warned us not
to have food in the tent or in the vehicle.  They had pictures of a small import that had been
ripped to shreds after the bears had pulled to door off of the car, gotten in and destroyed
the vehicle.  All of the campsites had heavy metal enclosures to lock the food up in.  I
didn't want to put my vehicle to the "Bear Test Squad", so all food was locked up as
recommended.  Don't know what to do when there are not steel lock boxes for the food.  Maybe
its not the same problem.
