Temp II sensor and ground straps. Temp II is on the side of the thermostat housing, is blue, and can be changed without draining the coolant. You will lose about a quart of coolant, so catch it and dispose of properly. You'll want to bleed your cooling system after that. Part is pretty cheap as I recall (around $10 maybe?).

Mine's getting flaky again according to the Digifant tool <http://scribers.midwest.net/midwesty/vw/Vanagon/DigiFantTool/> even though I changed it less than 2 years ago.
