Well, the 5 cyl. engines fits, so your good length wise. The Audi V6 fits too, so you're good in the width, too. I guess that if it doesn't fit, one can always make it fit, right? The exhaust can be dragged forward, and exit in a couple of fat chromed sidepipes.

Btw, has anybody ever thought of shoe-horning in the V8 from Audi? This should be one heck of an engine in the Vanagon, and you'd still be all VW/Audi for the few times you'll let the mechanic touch your baby. There is a TDI V8 coming in very short time.......
