Get a complete seat. Detachable seat-base combinations are just that, detachable. I want my son as securely attached as possible. Not to mention the implications of the whole baby-carrier thing. I've got a Century SmartMove convertable (front/rear facing) in the back seat of my van, and a ten year old Renolux seat in my wife's Corolla. Both have five-point harnesses and are easily convertable front or rear facing. The Renolux is long discontinued (the company actually went out of business, as far as I can tell) but is probably the best designed, most simple car seat I've seen. When you buckle the seats into the van (or anywhere) be sure to put all of your weight on the seat to crush the seat cushion down. Relaxing the cushion after securing the belt will clamp it to the seat much more than you could ever hope to with just the belt. _________________________________________________________ Bob O'Shaughnessy, Columbus, OH vanagon@columbus.rr.com 85GL with basic Westy interior 74 Bus (Dad's) 72 Wife, 94 Rabbit, 95 Cat, 96 cat, 98 Kid 52 House |
