I know of a couple of "old-timers" who coat the undersides of their cars with used motor oil as well as moving parts such as hoods and latches. While one is still driving the '72 Dodge that he bought new, it may be a case of fastidious maintenance that has kept the car looking great through 27 New England winters. The one definite thing that I can say is that greasy oily nuts and bolts are always easier to remove than nasty rusty corroded ones.
