We started with an infants seat from my brother and quickly switched to a
Century products "Breverra Contour" when Tersa got a little bigger.

When it came time to think about a second seat because we both were going
places and got tired of switching the seat, we bought one of the new
Booster type seats with the high back and a 5 point harness.  Ours is an
Evenfloe ("Ultra I or II"??)


The Century Contour is a very nice seat, not too big, but can be used
forward or backward depending on age, and Tersa drops off to sleep in it at
the drop of a pin, and it fit in the back seat of my GTI.  Others didn't.
We tried a fancier unit with auto slide and just didn't like it.

The Evenflo is great.  Not quite as comfortable as the Century (she sits up
straighter by a bit in it), but then the two seats are designed for
different purposes.  We went with the Evenflo booster because we knew that
eventually Tersa would need that size seat, and even though she was
"officially" under the weight and height guidelines for the seat used as a
booster, the fact that it had a 5 point adjustable for height harness in it
made the difference.  The seat belt system ON THE SEAT fit her just like
the Centruy 5 point harness did.


BY THE WAY!!!  Consumers Reports did a test on the three systems a couple
of years ago, 5 point harness - pull down bar - chunky thing between the
legs, and decided that the 5 point harness was the SAFEST.

I know that some people swear by their pull down bar seats, but I really
don't see that it is any more convient than the 5 point harness.  If the
harness is designed correctly, the buckling up process is actually FASTER
than dropping the bar and fishing around for the crotch belt ssytem with
the drop down bar.  The 5 point harness on our Evenflo is PARTICULARLY nice
in this respect.
