I would certainly agree with Chris. I would recommend against spray on undercoatings.

Kool Patch is not a spray. It is actually an asphalt/fiberglass emulsion that spreads on with a coarse bristle brush, like pudding. It never fully "dries" but forms a thick, leathery semi-solid, kinda like roofing tar. Due to the glass fiber strands, it doesn't crack, at least our hasn't and it is 3 years old.

I think Kool Seal warrantees it for 8 years when used as a roofing patch. Durable stuff.

<< If you have neither the luxury of a garage, nor a second vehicle for use on salty days, you still have many defenses. Undercoat everything on your van with two coats of Kool Patch. Then, pull the interior, undercoat everywhere, and spray all the seams and creases inside the van with 3M rust preventative, Kroil, or Waxoil; all of which are thick waxy coatings which seal out moisture. Seal 3-mil moisture barrier behind all panels. >>

thick layers of tarry spray on undercoating can actually lead to rust, by trapping water underneath the undercoating, where it never dries out. if you must use some sort of spray on undercoating, i'd reccomend the parrifin waxy style undercoatings, which seep into cracks better, and are sprayed on at a high temp, so they are very liquid, then dry. the less coats, the better. the more thick the undercoating is, the more the likelyhood it will seperate from the body, leaving pockets behind that trap moisture/dirt. chris
