Just to add my $.02, my mom's garage usually stays above freezing even on below zero nights, so slush frozen to the car would melt at night, making quite a mess in addition to allowing salty moisture to coat the vehicle. Washing the car is great in the winter time, the problem being that many quarter fed car wash places use recycled water, so often the water you are washing your van with isn't exactly salt free.
