According to a master deisel mechanic In the trucking industry who was once runner-up for "Detroit Deisel Mechanic of the Year", a lot of things have been tried for solving the problem, with varying degrees of success. The most successful, in his mind, for a cooling system is Nalcool additive. It takes about 1/2 pint of Nalcool to a gallon of coolant to start, and 1/2 pint every 4 to 6 months as an additive. In deisel engines the higher running temperature contributed to the electrolysis resulting in "Cavitational Erosion" (pitting of the aluminum faces), The Nalcool addative was used by fleets as a preventative measure.

Does anyone on this list know about Nalcool. Let me know what you think or have heard.
