A couple years ago, a month-long, divisive thread got started about "whether one should burn plastics in a campfire" when a listee uttered some minor quip about incinerating foam plates... It was then I realized SOME jokes don't float here...a lot of the folks on the list see our Vanagons and Westfalias as a means to get away from tainted cities, to places where the ground, air, and skies are (at least somewhat) cleaner. So it trips some triggers if you say your gonna burn plates and drain your bilge when you are in our (shared) wilderness. G. Most were not amused. I have used the graywater from my washing machine to water my fig trees during a draught. Grey water can be used effectively in well planned systems, but simply dumping it on the ground may cause real problems. As with anything, a little goes a LONG way. Excessive nutrient problems (nitrogen, phosphorous, etc) may not be apparent to most folks, and the small additions each individual may contribute may not seem like much, but eventually, they become really serious. Additionally, food wastes create nuisance problems (and mixed with soaps can create wildlife illnesses) while "other" wastes create additional concerns. -- Please remove "faux." from my reply-to address above in order to send a reply.
