Subject: Re: Can't adjust idle (was High RPM miss)
Gary;
I am going to theorize on the problem of not being able to adjust
the idle with the idle adjust screw. The way I would approach this
problem is to think of high idle as if you are holding the gas pedal down
slightly i.e. the throttle butterfly is partly open. Is it? Have you
performed the idle stop adjustment as per Bentley? I _ALWAYS_ do this
when I have any kind of suspected FI problem.
Okay, so the butterfly is fine. Next check the idle position
switch as per Bentley. I can not stress enough how important it is to
follow the Bentley procedure to the letter.
Next I would check the case integrity for air leaks. Any opening
will allow large volumes of air to be sucked through the case by the
crankcase ventilation system. I corresponded with a fellow on a similar
problem. We finally zeroed in on the small doughnut seal at the base of
the dipstick!
Another problem is missing doughnut seals at the base of the fuel
injectors. Let me know what you find.
