OK, Bulley, Try this: Put a splice in the hose coming out of the sink trap with a shut-off valve and hose, then put your bucket (ridged or collapsible) under the sink IN! the cupboard with the by-pass valve and hose going into the bucket. I could write at length about refinements to make it leak-proof, but your a resourceful guy :-) BTW we have a nice box that goes aft of the pass. front seat that really takes the heat off the need to have storage in the sink-trap cupboard.
