It's very simple and easy -- right after you take off the dashboard.  In
other words, they come out from the inside, by pinching the ears that hold
them in.  And VW was none too generous with the tubing.  By partially
removing the wiper linkage and suffering many scrapes to my right arm I
think I've gotten the right-side one out, but I don't think I ever figured
out how to get to the left side without removing the dash.  This was all
years ago; maybe you can get to the left side by removing the instrument
panel.  Might try pulling a suction on the outside of the jet -- certainly
can't hurt.
