I agree with Larry. On a previous Westy I owned back in '91, the oil light came on intermittently during a trip through the Southern California desert. After a few miles of shear panic, I stopped and talked to an old *Ferd* repairman and he said, " well, honey, ya might jes throw a rod". I didn't have the slightest idea what he was talking about, so I kept chattering away as my passenger remained clueless and I put the petal down and headed for LA. We got back to LA and I later discovered the oil light was coming on from a bare spot in the wire coming in contact with metal. Simple problem, simply solved. Threw no rods. Lots of others stories, but not that trip!
