Subject: BA6 Info - Findings - Maintenance group

Hi Heater-needers

I have an 82 westy with a BA6. This is what I've found:

You do need to have the heat lever (2nd lever down on my 82) pushed to HOT (all the way right) in order for it to even run.

There is a thermostat located inside the dash on the right side of the dash. You should be able to hear it click on and off as you dial the knob back and forth.

The knob pushed in should run it without the key. The knob pushing in and rotating sets the time. The rotation of the knob without pushing in sets thermostat.

I believe there is also a circuit type breaker under the dash just right of the knob. Maybe reset this.

I also found that the air intake tubing can get very full of dirt. Mine was almost completely filled with dirt when I removed it.

That's about all I know/remember without delving into books and stuff.

Anybody know more or where I am off? Maybe we need a heater maintenance group like we did our dometic refers last spring.

Speaking of heaters, Anybody know where to get the short exhaust piece that extends from the outlet of the BA-6?

I also have a complete BA-6 I removed from a 1981 Vanagon. I originally intended to keep it for parts for mine. It is complete, heater, wiring harness, thermostat, green knob, everything. I could be talked into selling it if someone was interested. Probably somewhere around 150-200 for it all.

Keep warm, Ken Wyatt 82 westy
