Regarding the complaints about engine noise in the back seat , I had a similar problem when I had changed the air filter system and did not have the sound insulated snorkle connected. The intake roar of the diesel is loud and the stock system has a fabric pipe with sound baffles on the inside of the tube that runs up to the air intake in back of the rear window on the right side of the car. Since the fabric pipe was damaged, I used abs fittings and 2 1/2" dia straight radiator hose up to the vent. It was more acceptable after that.

My impression of NA vs TD engine noise was not a signifcant difference but the power difference is noticeable.
