My friend is looking at a couple newer westies. he has a few questions that I thought some of you might be able to answer. here is a copy of what he was asking me about:
I was thinking about this van down in texas, but i'm not really sure about it. it's maroon, automatic, has an extra rv air-conditioner on the back it's got solar panels, a tv and an awning. it's got a lot of miles though-160000, but a lot less than that on the new motor and tranny. they want 13000./ i don't know if it's worth that much. and i'm suspicious of how worth-it the solar panels are. how do you feel about synchro's? there's an '88 4x4 in canada for 12,500. it's got a five speed tranny. i think it's a funky camper conversion, like not maybe a westy, but i'm not sure. it only has 80000 miles. i've heard some sketchy things about synchro's breaking a lot, but i think it would be cool to have. we used to have a vanagon and it wasn't so good in the snow. what do you think? i was also wondering if all synchro's had locking differentials. maybe you could help me out. any advice would be appreciated. thanks.
