I'm using red digital Cyberdyne gauges from JCW that completely "blackout" when not in use. I have meters reading Voltage, oil pressure, oil temperature and coolant temperature. I have temp sensors on both sides of the thermostat revealing the prevailing engine coolant temperature and the available coolant temp coming from the radiator using a single coolant gauge and a toggle switch. This is really valuable when you want to know just how hot (thermally loaded)the entire cooling system is.

Also I have a separate LED warning system connected to the charging system D+, the 0.3 & 0.9 Bar oil presssure swts and the 95*C & 102*C temperature swts. The LEDs provide a parallel, view of what's happening, independent of the stock warning indicators OR my fancy digital gauges.

I believe that the waterboxer is a well designed, durable motor that will last a long time. But many waterboxers are destroyed because something small went wrong and the driver was unaware until it was too late. "Too late" may only be a few minutes, so I have THREE independent systems feeding information to the "pilot". I have installed a VW reman exchange long block and I only intend to do that ONCE............
