I have an '87 Vanagon, with a blown engine (rod is sticking through block) pars places tell me the core charge on these engines, 2.1 L, is very high. Does any one have a used engine, salvagable block or other suggestion of a relatively inexpensive way to get my van back on the road?

I am not sick of my engine, but I was wondering if this would be more or less expensive then trying to replace the current 2.1 L engine which shops want an arm and a leg for.

Rick
