Wolfgang from Munich wrote in the German VW-Bus Forum: (http://f1.parsimony.net/forum165/messages/10654.htm) Several times there was a discussion in the VW-Bus Forum how to strengthen the Vanagon gearbox. It will be interesting, if someone could some information about modification which are available in South Africa. This are parts number for additional parts used at the South African gearbox: 22S 301 202 OIL SPLASH PLATE / DIFF PLATE NYLON 22S 301 222 OIL SPLASH PLATE / 5. GEAR NYLON 22S 301 204 OIL SPLASH PLATE ??? 2 times 22S 301 319 BUSH PROTECTION SPLASH PLATE 2 times 22S 301 103 w/o description The first and second part redirects the oil to the differential plate and to the 5th gearing. You may remodel them with some aluminum plates, but it will be interesting to get them as originals. Price will be only a few Dollars. But you may need the South African housing to mount them, this could be to expensive. (Harald already replied, that only four holes have to be drilled, four threads have to be made and a minor case modification to be made on the European 5 speed box) If you need to get the other 5 parts isn't clear right now. Additionally, the South African gearbox got a strut beside the bellhousing. Part number is: 22S 300 107 STIFFING STRUT (N.L.A.) and 22S 300 107 A STIFFING STRUT I don't know details. What does N.L.A means? Not Longer Available ??? But it is a iron made strut, can't be expensive. For Syncros the strut is useless because of the fueltank. The bellhousings part number is: BCY 301 107A CLUTCH HOUSING 5 Cylinder We're investigating, if we could purchase this parts and the pricing of them. Helmut '80 Vanagaudi |
