Hi Syncronauts, I wanted to know if anyone of you has experience replacing the accelerator cable on a vanagon??!! Mine recently broke, way out in the middle of the Utah desert (atop Islands in the Sky) and when i took it apart I found it broke right under the accelerator pedal. I was able to disconnect it in back, advance it an inch or so in front and connect the cable itself (as opposed to the crimped end that is normally attached, that broke off) and screw down the screw that clamps it to the connection at the other end of the pedal. Then I had to use bailing wire to make the connection in the engine compartment to the throttle, since the cable was an inch too short. This worked beautifully! I was able to continue on my trip and return to Santa Fe, over 500 mi away! I was able to find a used parts place in Moab and it was easy to pull an old one out of another vanagon, but it does not look so easy to reinstall?? Thanks for any thoughts, Peter |
