Subject: fuse panel on an '85
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="windows-1257"

Dear list,

When I hooked up an aux battery I wanted to run the rear cabin light off it. I went to the fuse panel and found that #8 fuse ran that light so I hooked the hot side of that to the aux battery.

Well the light works but:

I knocked off another wire, red and yellow with a jumper on it [i.e. two female connectors]. Now the aux battery doesn't receive a charge [I don't know if it ever did] and the AC compressor is not kicking on. Does anyone know where the red/yellow wire and the pig tail attached to it are supposed to go?

For your further amusement I've listed below the VW foibles since last Friday:

Vanagon Woes

10-17-99

10-15

A/C went out, compressor doesn t kick in

Gas and temp gauges fall slowly when driving.

Wouldn t start in West Sac

No Headlights

10-16

Started next morning

Reattached headlight fuse wire, headlights OK

One other wire with pig tail, red and yellow, detached from back of fuse panel

13.9 volts at main battery, engine running

10.6 volts at aux battery, engine running

Wouldn t start afternoon, jumped to aux battery, started.

10-17

Wouldn t start morning, jumped to aux battery and started.

Left jumpers in and took to Kragen, main battery checked, Charge and recheck said their little machine

Drove to a friend s house, parked facing up in the driveway and left it running

Engine boiled and boiling water went into fill bottle and boiled out lots of coolant [overflow bottle pressure cap?]

Drove home and checked voltage on aux battery, up to 12 volts so got some recharge through the jumpers.

Any ideas on ANY of these things?

TIA

Mike Sacramento
