It is possible to put the piston back in using a 4" hose clamp as a ring compressor. It is not easy or fun and 2 sets of hands are needed. Tie a wire or strong string to the clamp so you can fish it out after it has done it's job. I helped a friend do this a few weeks ago. You need a " wider than some" hose clamp so it will bridge at least some of each of the 3 rings. Positioning of the rings gaps and clamp screw is tricky as you need to slide the cylinder on at a 90 degree from normal position with the clamp screw at the top. I hope never to need to do this again and we broke an oil ring before we figured out that the proper positioning of everything was vital. After the cylinder pushed the clamp off the rings, we unscrewed the clamp using a tiny ratcheting 90 degree screwdriver, and fished it out with the string. We then rotated the cylinder to the proper position before pushing it in the rest of the way. The rings will turn with the cylinder so factor that in when positioning them but make sure that none of the gaps is near the screw part of the clamp as the clamp does not seat well near its screw and the ring end will catch on the cylinder edge.
