Subject: V'gon a Bus (Just not quite classic)
Content-Type: text/plain

A Trancelike meditation on the recent Vanagon-Bus question:

My Westy is a VW buslike, rear-engined, excessively air-cooled (inside) vehicle. No-one mistakes it for being very modern looking (except loaf or splittie purists). It has many aspects in common with older busses, but is not an older bus.....

Can we not accept this, and our blessed vanagons, for what they are? We should hold our heads high as we zoom past older busses and be satisfied that the one we chose has as classy a chassis as those slightly more contoured models. Yes our babies have plenty of backside action just like the busses of yester-year and most of the time can get us going to where we need to be. Those who dis' our type 2s should ride awhile on our springs.

A few may have to pigeonhole and classify us to death, we do not have to accept this. Some may say we are not pure enough or worthy of belonging to the bus family. We are not the black sheep, illegitimate children of those born in a golden age of busdom. We are the logical, evolutionary brothers and sisters of past VWs.

Yes, any classification of vehicles would lump all these rear-engined, box-like, VW labled busses as having common roots! Even twin brothers and sisters point out their differences and stake out a unique identity. Yet all around see they are physically as alike as people can be.

Let us rejoice in what we have in common as we keep our busses rolling.

Loving the Ride in my Vanagon, Westfalia, Bus, T3, type2 or whatever it is.
