Many thanks to those of you who responded to my thermostat & and temp sensor questions. I handed the problem over to my mechanic, Ken McCarl, who tested the system. The rad does heat up and the fan does come on, it just takes a lot longer than I expected. Something over half an hour, in fact. I guess I just worry too much and I am not used to liquid cooling. After all, 17.5 litres is alot of water to heat up, and this engine apparently runs pretty cool. It does have fresh 5w50 synthetic in it.
