Would a rear lock bulb failure cause the front lamp to not flash? I often
wondered whether it was possible to operate the front difflock on its own. I
did notice on my Syncro that there is a 'Y' vacuum connector on the rear
difflock switch although my Bentley doesn't refer to it.
There should be a couple of spare bulbs on the circuit board. When I bought
my Syncro, both my bulbs were dead. I replaced these but my locks were well
gummed up and have now both been freed up and lubed. I have found with mine
that it does take a while for my locks to disengage (I fire mine up once a
week to keep them free). I can only assume that the 'push' vacuum isn't
strong enough.
I should be picking up my other Syncro next week. The guy I'm buying it from
had it serviced yesterday and upon driving into the garage, the box stuck in
3rd gear! So, it'll have a fully reconditioned box on delivery now :-)
This van also has both front and rear lockers.
Did anyone get anywhere with alternative diff-lock servo actuator mechanisms
i.e. electrical? I would prefer to replace the iffy vacuum system.

Yep, you read the subject and also the problem.
A little explanation is needed. When the knob for the front diff lock is
pulled, and the lock has not engaged yet, the light is supposed to
blink. This is to warn the driver that the knob is pulled, 'cause when
the lock locks, the steering dies, the steering cannot be turned, and
the van can only go straight forward.
The problem appeared after I un-stuck the stuck rod for the lock. The
light blinked when I serviced the unit, but I have later seen that it
does not blink. Yes, the light lights when the lock engages, so its not
the bulb either. The only thing I can think of, is that the light for
the rear lock is dead too. I think it's the bulb, but I haven't replaced
it yet.
Any pointers?
