But, if the a/c fits the sunroof version, what is it that makes it not fit the westy? The opening's the same, right? I seem to remember that I read somewhere that the reason the sunroof on the bay's and Vanagons are so large, is that it doubles as the opening in the poptops. >> the last vw van to use the sunroof hole as the westy poptop hole was '73. '74-'91 the roof is cut away basically all the way to the rear on the westy, tho the hole starts at the front where the sunroof hole would start. on my '84 sunroof van, the A/C was installed by the dealer. most pre- '86 a/c systems were dealer installed. the evap housing actually overlaps the front of the sunroof a few inches. also, the sunroof crank is hard to use, because it rubs against the center tunnel (even tho the crank handle is not centered in the middle of the ceiling) the reason that this wouldnt work on a westy, is you wouldnt be able to get your hands up there to pop the poptop latch, because the overhead evap. housing would be in the way. the upper shelf on the drivers side would also be in the way, too. chris |
