I have the Strange(tm) AC unit in my '86 Syncro. I have a new compressor on it as of last summer. I think that it works pretty well when fully charged. It is however a challenge keeping it that way. The pressure hoses have both been spliced and I think that is where I am loosing gas. FWIW, my children will ask me to turn down the AC on long trips durring the summer because it gets too cold in the back seat! Several months ago I had a problem with condensation leaking down out of the evaporator box. The drain pan had sprung a leak so I dismantled the unit fixed it (jb weld of course;). When I reassembled it I replaced all of the foam seals on the cold air box and I added extra insulation in spots. The high pressure hose (which is hot) ran right through the cold air box so I put a piece of black foam pipe insulation around it and then taped it up with aluminium duct tape. I also used the Al duct tape to seal up some rather large gaps around the cold air box. John-Reed Maffeo '86 Syncro Glacie Mesa, Az |
