Tonight I looked at an 87 Vanagon Weekender Wolfsburg Edition. The body and interior are in excellent condition. The owner reports an intermittent condition in which the van fails to start. The starter and engine turn over but there is no sound of the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. At other times the van starts just fine. He has owned the van for five years (60,000 of the 160,000 on the odometer) and has in that time replaced the water pump and the alternator. The engine has not been cleaned and seems to have no obvious gross oil or coolant leaks. He is asking $2,000. I have two questions: What are your feelings on the price?, and Do you have suggestions for remedying the starting problem? Thanks, Rico Dagastino Munford, TN |
