Jeff, It's not that bad. Lots of us have had this problem. VW mechanics see it all the time. Cost me $32 to have a time-cert insert put in mine. Used a FLAPS expansion rubber plug for 6 months prior to that. You may have to modify the rubber plugs a little to fit up into the plug cavity but it is easy to do.
