My van ('91 Carat) has had the recall done and I became intimately aquainted with it during my lowering of the rear A/C unit and replacing of o-rings for my A/C recharge last spring.

While dropping the rear unit the other pieces of the air duct decided to do the "domino" effect and all fell down in sucession (kinda funny now that I can look back on it). In the ceiling there were small steel plates hung between two 10mm bolts. Instead of having screws in the corner of a cheesy plastic piece (which is original) now you just slide a lip of the ducts (starting from the front and working your way back) over these plates and this is what holds them in place. It works pretty well and now the only danger you have of these falling is if you have your rear unit down.

Putting the ducts back up is either a two man job or one man and a properly cut piece of wood as a prop (ala hanging sheetrock on the ceiling). The Rear unit is a job for either two people with strong legs (it can be a pain to line up those three bolts per side) or one person with a prop (or two props if you want to really not strain).

Have fun and think warm thoughts :)
