  Along with other reasons, If a manufacturer makes changes to an
expensive product like this, it is clear that by making the change, and
not recouping, there design investment, that the product did not work
well.

  GM got burned at this not to long ago. They had a braking system
on a vehicle for one year only. A laywer sued and won, big time. Now
GM, knowing they have screw up on designs, keeps putting stuff out
to prevent this, for at least a few years.
