VWTrends & Fast German Auto put in ratio rockers in August 1998, p.56, on a 2,1 Vanagon engine. It says in the text that FGA estimates about 10% power gain over stock, which again is ca. 10 hp.

Well, the factory has to consider plenty more circumstances than just plain power. The engine has to have longevity (relatively spoken), it has to meet exhaust emissions, fuel consumption standards, be good for operating temperatures from at least -40 to +50 C, etc. and mostly, not be too expensive. In addition, it wasn't necessary. Just ask those who drive 50 hp diesels or 60 hp 1,9s! With the power parts from the Beetle being well into its third and fourth decade, I bet VW tried ratio rockers at one time, definitely! I know they even supercharged the 1,9 WBX, which made 155 hp.

Its just at the end of these power hungry 90s people find it necessary!
