Subject: Front blower motor workaround?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Well it's beginning to get frosty cold in my part of the world and I've got to do something about that seized blower motor under the dash. I've checked the archives, read the scoop on the procedure in Bentley and decided it is beyond my competance, confidence & cash.

Something I haven't seen mentioned but seems like a simple solution is to mount a small oscillating 12v fan on the dash near the heater outlet. Plenty of heat rises out of that vent even without the blower. Wouldn't pulling that heat out and directing it across the windshield with the above mentioned fan make common sense?

Of course I just happen to have such a fan ( it's about 5" around, the fan cage that is) that I picked up at a marine supply store several years ago. It has been mounted in the trough above the fridge and tapped into the cabin lighting with a toggle switch to turn it on. I've used it about 4 times in four years, mainly just to admire my first auto-electric mod. It's really quite useless where it is.

Perhaps for a cleaner installation a 12v muffin fan could be mounted under or above the hot air distribution outlet?

Anyone else tried a workaround?

TIA
