Subject: '85 GL head gasket replacement...
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Good morning all, My Vanagons 1.9L "Wasserboxxer" engine is spread all over (in a very organized manner) my garage floor. I have read all the E-mail and have talked to my local Parts Store guy and I am still a little confused as to how to proceed with this task. I took the passenger side head off trying to leave the cylinder walls in place. No luck. The cylinder walls were coming off with the head no matter what I wanted. 2 questions here... 1. How do I separate the cylinder walls from the head now that the head is sitting on my work bench? and... 2. Is there a way to get the cylinder walls back in the block without pulling the engine or taking the pistons out? Thanks to everyone who has been in my shoes and will reply to me. Any added information will be greatly appreciated also. Richard F. Bias '98 Bug '85 Vanagon GL
