Hello Roy

The probable cause for your inoperable mirror is a broken wire. Over the years, the wire becomes brittle and eventually breaks. I had this happen to both sides for my door speakers and power mirrors. You can easily check this by inspecting the wire for breaks. This wire is bundled with several wires (power mirror, power mirror switch and door speakers) that crosses over between your door and frame, right at the jam, inside that rubber jacket. This is quite easy to fix if you have a soldering gun. Remove this wiring harness completely. Get some good strand wire of similar gauge. Cut off enough of the bad wire at both ends. Splice in a new piece that is long enough to spand across your door jam and then some. Repeat this for any other wire that show signs of breaking.
