The one other problem is that you could have an air bubble locking the system. I would give it a good bleed just to be sure before you start pulling the thermostat housing (Pain in the rear).

Jack up the front 12" or more if you can. Let it sit like this for a few minutes. Start the van and open the bleed. Have someone rev the van up to 2500 rpms. Open the expansion tank and add fluid if necessary. Keep adding until you get a steady stream from the bleed screw on the radiator (no bubbles). Close the bleed on the rad and the expansion tank. Let her go back to idle and shut the van down. Repeat after a couple of minutes if you want to be really sure.
