Dear Mark,

In Bentley's "Vanagon Official Factory Repair Manual," page 7 (quote):

Flat Towing : : Manual Transmission (including Synchro) There are no restrictions on speed or distance when towing manual transmission cars behind other vehicle.

So, save the dolly rental cost and just tow it (all 4 wheels on the ground). The automatic transmission versions require removal of the driveshafts if towing faster than 30 mph and/or greater than 30 miles.

Sincerely,

John Y. Hung Auburn, AL 84 GL
