You are correct that you could test the actual fan itself this way, but the A/C fan switching system and the radiator fan switching system are really two different beasts.

Radiator fan test that I gave would allow you to know if your fan was coming on and working properly in response to coolant temps.

The radiator fan test for the A/C system really only has to do with refrigerant pressures, etc making the fan come on at low and high speeds according to the refrigerant pressures in the system. Really a whole other system and a whole other troubleshooting chart.

Just don't want to confuse people. In simple terms your A/C system could be turning your fan on at both speeds and your coolant temp sender could still be bad and not allowing the fan to come on at the proper temps during normal operation.
