Per, the Golfs are made in Germany (at least my TDI was).

Yes, there is a high demand of TDI cars here, but it doesn't matter for the Golf/Jettas for the US market, as they are manufactured in Mexico. I don't know if the engines are manufactured in Mexico or Germany, but I guess they have enough capacity in Germany.
