Fellow Vanagonians, Read my list: go to this local website for an additional education on synthetic oil and fuel additives: Egan's Pit Stop in Seattle www.Pitstop-cruizer.com I fill my Westy propane tanks at his store where I also buy Duralt by the gallon. I run my 95 Golf 2.0 conversion on 87 Oct with 1 oz per tankful. My best mileage so far has been 24 mpg. I am switching to synthetic oil and the addition of a 1 micron filter by Amsoil. Before I let go of the dual-pressure relief valve Mann diesel oil filter, some further investigation needs to be done on Amsoil filters. I have been using the Diesel filters by Mann and Mahle since the conversion in 95, following advice from a fellow employee that knew this recently posted info on the proper filter for the Vanagon. According to Joe Egan's information the stock filter is the wrong choice when using synthetic oil. I have read other helpful articles in the list archives that explain synthetic and organic oil. I am sending a copy of "oil notes" to Joe Egan as well. Has anyone had experience with Amsoil and Duralt? Mr. Egan originally sold gasoline at his place with Duralt in his tanks until the E.P.A. shut him down. The pumps still stand with R.I.P. on the face of each one with a note of recognition for the E.P.A.

With my first conversion I had a problem with my oil pump losing it's prime due to a sticking relief valve in the Diesel oil pick-up tube. This created a pressure problem at startup which caused the lifters to rattle until you revved the engine over 2-3000 rpm. Has anyone had this problem before with there conversion?
