Subject: '87 Syncro Rear diff lock vacuum source?
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

Hello: I am trying to connect my rear diff switch vacuum hoses that were disconnected by the PO. Referring to Bentley, I got the dash hoses back okay, but I cannot figure out why I don't have vacuum on the black hose. With the engine running, there is no vaccuum at the reservoir on the left frame rail or on either side of the blue/black check valve(?) next to it. The hose from that valve tees into a large plastic hose on the left frame rail; that tee is not plugged up. I tried to trace the large hose, I believe it goes back to the left side of the engine compartment and thru a yellow check valve to the air distribution box. I think the other end maybe goes to the power brake booster under the dash but I'm not sure. There is vacuum at the yellow check valve in the engine compartment. Am I overlooking a page in the Bentley or can someone tell me where the vacuum source is for the black hose? It is my understand- ing that the blue and white hoses are "downstream" of the black hose at the diff switch and thus have no bearing on this. Any help is appreciated!

Cary
