I know this has been covered, but here goes anyway.  Inverters bought at
Damark, Kmart, Walmart, etc. (I have had several and still use one), are
generally all producing a modified sine wave, versus a true sine wave.  The
modified wave sometimes causes less than optimal results coming through
electronic devices.  Typically, that will be in the form of a buzzing noise
through the speaker of the device, louder or softer depending on the device.
But it can also cause funny things to happen.  For example, I had a regular
VCR plugged into my inverted and it absolutely refused to play a tape at
regular speed.  It would only play at EP speed.  When I plugged it into the
house current, it was fine.  Bottom line: Try it out, and if it is
acceptable to you, then fine.

As far as the vcr/tv combinations in general, I have one now, but I managed
to drop and break one, and had another with the vcr section that went out.
The problem with these is that when one part breaks, you either pay a
ridiculous price for repair, or you replace the whole thing.

One final thought, just for all the hypervigilant safetynauts, I would
suggest strapping ANY of these units down or otherwise mounting them to
avoid them becoming heavy projectiles during what might very well be a low
to mid speed crash.  It always made sense to me!
