Tim, I was wondering how you got the correct parts for the locking action in the front diff.

I noticed that the default factory little pinions for the front diff are only for non-locking front differentials.

Did you get the little pinions from a rear locking transmission and then simply install them up front?

In examining the front pinions, I notice that the little pinions set up front is different from the little pinions set for the rear even if both sets are locking variety.

Please confirm the implication of your statement, which is that either a) locking little pinions set from the rear transmission can be moved forward to a front diff, or b) you can use non-locking little pinions set in the front even after you install a locker in the front.

So far as I can tell, the little pinions sets have the following part numbers:

#1. Little Pinions Set, four little pinions, for locking differential, rear, $380, 094 598 081 A

#2. Little Pinions Set, two little pinions, for non-locking diff, rear, 091 598 081

#3. Little Pinions Set, two little pinions, for locking differential, front, 094 498 081, available in Germany but not a USA part

#4. Little Pinions Set, two little pinions, for non-locking differential, front, 091 598 081, USA part

Notice that #2 and #4 (front and rear non-locking pinion sets) are the same.

Notice that #1 and #3 (front and rear locking pinion sets) are NOT the same. It would seem they are not the same because they are two vs. four little pinons. If Tim has found that you can use #1 pinion set in the front then this is welcome news as it means we do not have to speical order Set #3 from Germany.

Does anybody have more substantial research on this question to add to this analysis?
