Subject: '87 ECU mysteries
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed"

I've been having strange things. Power loss, some hesitation.

So I sent my ECU to Darrell. Mechanic says his scope says no change with the Darrellized ECU.

So I get one from a parted '87.

So today the mechanic calls and says that with my old ECU his scope says I have maybe 8, 16 or 32 cylinders.

With one from the parted '87 the scope says I have exactly 8 cylinders. This is an improvement? Now it's a constant wrong number.

With a brand new ECU which the mechanic just happened to have on hand, the scope says four cylinders. For those of you new to the group, four is the right answer.

I'm mystified.

Any wisdom from the group?

So far the catalytic converter and the oxygen sensor have been replaced.

I'm thinking of taking the car home with the old ECU and giving it a good shakedown.
