I learned this from some good soul on the list. I cannot remember who posted it, but
if your reading this step up and take some credit here because the noise drove me
nuts till I fixed it.

Behind the plastic that surounds the steering column I acouple of screws and it
comes right off) there are two bolts and a bracket that hold the column. Loosen the
bolts, do not remove them, pull up on the steering wheel, and tighten the bolts back
up. I had to have some help, one person pulling up, and the other tightening. Fixed.

I must mention here that this noise occured after I let the boys at the VW dealer
try to fix my inop. horn, which was still inop when I picked it up, but I had gained
a noise every time I turned the wheel. Guess the figured it hould work instead of
the horn?
