I would find it hard to believe that VW would give a hoot if anyone copied an out of print parts catalog. They need to protect their copyright, but unless someone was to profit off it, I don't think they would care. I've made plenty of copies of my '74 Campmobile owners manual and will send these out for the cost of the postage.

I have a copy of the Type 181 parts catalog that I bought from Bob Miller of the long defunct Thing Registry. He received permission from VW to copy and sell this, and he made money off of it.

It's worth a try to ask anyway.

Back to Adobe Acrobat. I went to a demo of their latest version a couple of weeks ago and was just amazed by what it can do. With the advent of the web, and software like Adobe Acrobat, it is now more difficult than ever for business to protect their material.

Many companies are putting their catalogs, technical information and old software on their websites for anyone to download. This keeps them from spending the time to copy and mail out this info.

I agree with Dr. Tim, if we sent a few thousand letters to VW, they may just give us permission to keep from bugging them.
