Great synopsis, Joel, of some basic realities. Proves any ape can learn from any other ape how to get things done better. We wouldn't have a space program or GPS or most other large infrastructers if it weren't for the military budget incentives. Security is an animal need we may never outgrow. It provides a real inspiration to acutally getting something done, at any cost, which by osmosis trickle down many side benefits for the common ape on the street.
