Paul,

Kelley Blue book values "appear" to reflect values of westies on the east coast and particularly the west coast. In the rest of the country Kelley values are worthless. Most banks and insurance companies never heard of "Kelley Blue book" ! They use NADA (National Automobile Dealers Association) Blue Book values which are 1/3 to 1/2 the values listed in Kelley.

Recently in Eau Claire Wisconsin (that's the "fly over" land for people on the coasts), a very clean 87 westy sold at the Volkswagen dealer for $7,500......... that's at a VW dealer!! In California that same westy might go for 10 or 11K.

Ultimately the values of our vanagons are determined by what the banks want to value them at. They aren't interested in taking risks and if the vanagons are just 15 year old foreign cars then they're not worth much and that's the case in the midwest.

Bob, 84 westy Menomonie WI
