Not quite, although the risk of fire and explosion do exist. Just cracking a line is not going to result in an instant exp[losion or even any explosioin. And any impact sufficient to crack that tank and make it explode when the valve is open would crack the tank whether the valve was on or off...besides, the impact would probably kill you first.

the hazard here is being absent minded, not propane. You can forget to tighten your lug nuts or seat belt or gas cap, too. Besides, what are you doing with gas in the pass compartment? Or parking where fumes are thick enough to pose a risk of explosion...from a bad sparkplug wire or alternator sparks.

Any bozos like this would deserve the darwinian award. Besides, under this logic, you should NEVER use the propane cause once you turn it on, you may never remember to turn it off before encountering a deadly explosion situation.
